Mrs. Long on Fundraising for the OUR Center

As everyone knows, I am a huge Chargers Fan. I was born and raised in San Diego, California and my entire family are Chargers fan. I moved to Colorado 10 years ago and continued to be a Chargers fan; I still am and will continue to be one. However, when the Chargers were clearly not going to make the playoffs, it was obvious to me that I would support Peyton Manning and the Broncos. After the AFC Championship game, I came up with the idea that I knew students would love to see me wear Broncos gear (pure torture for me, they all know) in support of the Super Bowl. That is when I came up with the idea to wear the Manning jersey.

Flagstaff supports the OUR center as our main philamprothy. The OUR center is an organization in Longmont that supports people who need help to get back on their feet.  Their Mission statement is “We help people move toward self-sufficiency by unifying community resources.”  Whenever Flagstaff has a canned food drive, or PJ drive, or coat drive, we give the items to the OUR Center.

In less than a 48 hours of our students and families knowing that I would wear a Broncos jersey we raised over $460 for the OUR center. My goal was $200, but our amazing families went above and beyond, like always, and found so much more. So, not only did I wear the jersey before the Super Bowl, I also wore a sweatshirt the Monday after they won.

I am so proud to be in a community of students who want to make sure I am miserable wearing non-Chargers gear, but at the same time raising money for a great cause.  Thank you all!

Terri Long
